Free Guy is a box office success. The Ryan Reynolds-led artificial intelligence comedy opened at $24.8 million in ticket sales and now will get a sequel.
Free Guy tells the story of Reynolds character Guy a non-playable character in an open-world video game. The game, “Free City,” is built upon daily violence and chaos but is created off a different code that allowed Guy to think on his own. The film opened at just over 4,000 theaters in North America.
After the success, Reynolds shared online Disney’s desire for a sequel.
“Aaaannnnd after 3 years messaging #FreeGuy as an original IP movie, Disney confirmed today they officially want a sequel. Woo hoo! #irony,” Reynolds wrote.
