The series ‘Idol’ with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp sent for large-scale reshoots
In June last year, HBO announced a project from Euphoria creator Sam Levinson and The Weeknd. Idol was supposed to tell the story of a pop singer who falls in love with a mysterious nightclub owner and cult leader. The Weeknd was not only a co-author but also a performer in one of the main roles. The musician also acted as an executive producer. However, as it became known to Variety, the project has undergone significant processing. This is expected to shift in the cast and crew. According to insiders, several episodes have already been filmed so far, which will now be completely redone. The project authors explain this as "a change in creative direction." "The Idol team continues to build, refine and evolve their vision for the show," HBO told the publication. The writers will be adjusting the cast and crew accordingly to best suit this new direction of the sequel. We look ahead to transmitting more information soon." At the same time, representatives of the studio refused to disclose which actors and crew members had dropped out of the project. However, recall that in September, Lily Rose-Depp joined the cast of the series. The cast also includes Troye Sivan, Suzanne Barada, Steve Zissis ("Her," "Parks and Recreation"), Melanie Lieberd ("This Is Us," "Game of Thrones" ), Tunde Adebimpe ( "Spider-Man: Homecoming " ), Elizabeth Berkley Lauren ("New Girl") and Niko Hiraga ("Football Players"). Sam Levinson serves as both writer and executive producer on the project. Idol was directed by Amy Seimetz ( Atlanta ) and showrunner Joe Epstein. It was planned that Mary Lowes, known for the series "Heirs" and "Preacher," would also join the scriptwriting team. In addition, the Weeknd's manager, Wassim "Sal" Slaby, and the musician's creative director, La Mar Taylor, were also supposed to take part in the project. https://ift.tt/3a9QmRN
